Born in Ciudad de México, Alejandra Reyes Zamorano is considered one of the most talented guitarists in Mexico. She graduated with the highest honors from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) under the guidance of Maestro Juan Carlos Laguna. Supported by Fondation Turquois she was a resident at Principauté de Monaco studying with Luc Vander Borght at the Académie de Musique Fondation Prince Rainier III.
In addition to her solo recitals, Alejandra has played with Orquesta Sinfónica de Aguascalientes, Orquesta Mexicana de las Artes, and recently made her US debut with Northwest Symphony Orchestra (Seattle) with the American premiere of Danzón 3, composed by the internationally acclaimed Arturo Márquez. She also gave the world premiere performance and recording of Para Ale, a chamber music work by the American composer Sarah Bassingthwaighte. As a guest musician of prestigious Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional, Orquesta Sinfónica de Minería and Orquesta Filarmónica de la UNAM, she has played in Sala Nezahualcóyotl, Palacio de Bellas Artes, Teatro del Bicentenario, Auditorio Nacional and has collaborated with Paquito D´Rivera, Natalie Karl, Stacey Mastrian, Javier Camarena, Juan Diego Flórez and Plácido
Domingo.
She is a passionate teacher and she has been part of the guitar faculty of Centro Cultural Ollin Yoliztli and Facultad de Música (UNAM). Now she teaches at Kithara Project México, a US-based initiative that provides guitar education for free to the children of Yugüelito.
To continue her artistic exploration, Alejandra has begun a new musical path as a composer. Her first works are a blend of music, nature sounds and visuals. Recently, she premiered Decantando en cantar: canto entre contrastes, and Con-templo at Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo as part of Caleidoscopio Sonoro Project. She has been in the spotlight since she was a student and now as a rising professional. Recently, a complete radio program was dedicated to her, live concerts were streamed at Radio UNAM and
OPUS 94, and she was featured in the March 2024 issue at the front page of the digital magazine La Mujer en la Música.
